Paul Elter, Photographer

Paul Elter is a multi-disciplinary artist of 25+ years working in photography, painting and sculpture. Moving in the opposite direction of the digital revolution toward the base materials of photography, Elter desired to make photographic images that are truly hand wrought, lead him to Wetplate Collodion Photography, mix the chemistry, pour the emulsion onto metal or glass, fix, varnish and deliver the image; exactly as the photographic pioneers of 1850. Currently Paul’s passion for historic photographic processes, building and modifying cameras has exploded into The TinCan project – a mobile darkroom and ultra-large Wetplate camera truck. Come by The TinCan Camera Truck (near the General Store Stage and merchandise tent) and watch the demonstrations and if you are interested you can set up an appointment to have your portrait taken – in glorious silver – to last 180 years! Visit his website to see examples of his work.
