Job Description:
Full time, one year, paid internship
Under the direction and training of the Executive Director, the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for building volunteer and community support for Northern Lights Festival Boréal (NLFB) through: the effective recruitment, retention and coordination of a 250+ volunteer base, using new and existing strategies/resources; the implementation and review of policies and procedures for volunteers and general festival operations; the facilitation of inter-organizational communication and partnerships; the development of sponsorship and in-kind donations from private & public agencies; the organization of recognition events for volunteers, sponsors etc., the processing of ticket sales, volunteer applications, equipment rentals etc.; logistical coordination for festival, special events; as well as day to day office tasks as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Recent post-secondary graduate
- Internship must provide first-time employment in a related field.
- The intern cannot have previously participated in a similar internship program.
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Marketing, Business, Management, Public Relations, Fundraising, Event Management, Arts Administration, Sales etc. or another relevant field;
- Work and/or volunteer experience in at least one of these fields or another related field;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Experience providing direction and training to volunteers and/or staff;
- Experience communicating with clients and the general public via telephone, email etc.;
- Experience drafting a variety of documents including: letters, reports, surveys, manuals, grant applications etc.;
- Experience with general word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, email platforms;
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work tasks;
- Concrete problem solving, conflict management and decision making skills;
- Ability to work flexible/extended hours during festival season and NLFB special events;
- Knowledge of government funding programs, as well as the non-profit and cultural sectors an asset;
- French language skills an asset;
- G or G2 Driver’s License an asset;
- Own vehicle/access to vehicle an asset;
