Yukon Blonde

Having rocked the socks off festival-goers in 2012, BC rock heroes Yukon Blonde have gone nowhere but up, and will be featured as the festival’s Friday night headliner. Riding the wave of success from their 3rd album On Blonde, Yukon Blonde have become one of the country’s foremost indie rock institutions. Their sound is a blend of west coast rock n’ roll, mixed with driving indie-rock, and a dash of catchy synth-pop. They are Juno nominated, critically acclaimed, and they continue to serve up one of the finest rock shows the country has to offer. Rumour has it a new album is in the works… release date TBD.
Their latest release, On Blonde (the title, a nod to Bob Dylan), is an exercise in pop pleasures ranging from spiky guitar-driven tracks (often recorded with a Dinosaur Jr. flare for the dramatic), to Depeche Mode-dark synth songs like “Starvation”, and irrepressible sing-alongs such as the lead single, “Saturday Night”. Even a wistful synth track called “Como,” complete with Beach Boy-esque light harmonies, inspired by the HBO series Girls (a fact that Innes reveals in bashful tones).
