“To cherish and delight”
The concept behind this work is that all things come from the Earth. To honour, cherish and delight in the Earth and her gifts and the act of gifting, my clown will carry with them a wagon of bizarre and mundane items around the festival and find places to build cherished arrangements, like altars. People can add to the arrangements and items, they can add found objects or gift their own items like offerings to the eclectic milieu of precious things. The focal of the altar, the “God” of the altar will always be different. The constant worship is of the source of the item’s raw materials and the honouring is of the act of their gifting or surrender.
A clown will create small water colour paintings or charcoal drawings of the altars and place them on another altar, the ‘people’s altar’. In exchange for participation or just to delight the clown will place these physical manifestations of visual meditations on the communal altar and give them as offerings “to cherish and delight”.
